  18. <p>    For those who missed the latest issue of Psychosomatic
  19. Medicine, a finding that is odd but demonstrably true: men run
  20. the greatest risk of dying shortly before their birthday, while
  21. women tend to die in the week just after. The biological reason
  22. is unclear, but speculation is focusing on the possible
  23. connection between mental state and physical health -- and no
  24. wonder, since the study was done in California. The increased
  25. risk is small enough that no one should worry, say the experts
  26. -- but to be safe, don't schedule major elective surgery for
  27. that time of year.
